The State of Hunger in Bangladesh

Despite significant growth in Bangladesh, the country faces some of the highest rates of malnutrition. Poorly developed water resources, inadequate sanitation, and poor hygiene further undermine the country’s public health. As a low-lying, densely populated country, recurring natural disasters such as cyclones and seasonal floods – exacerbated by climate change – have a devastating impact.

How We're Helping in Bangladesh

Action Against Hunger provides nutrition, health, mental health, food security, water, sanitation, and hygiene services in Bangladesh, in addition to helping people adapt to flooding. Since hundreds of thousands of Rohingya and other ethnic minorities fled persecution in Myanmar in 2017, we have been a lead humanitarian actor supporting refugees in Cox’s Bazar.

We work in Rohingya displacement settlements to prevent and treat malnutrition among young children.

Rohingya Crisis: Challenges in Cox’s Bazar Continue

Our teams improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene for Rohingya refugees and community members in and outside of displacement camps.

We train moms how to screen their children for malnutrition using a color-coded band called the mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) band.

A Band of Hope

Our teams partner with communities vulnerable to climate disasters to help them earn income, adapt, and build resilience to future shocks.
